In 2015, the total amount of water withdrawn for recreational-landscape irrigation uses in Florida was estimated at 398 million gallons per day (Mgal/d). Withdrawals include water used for golf course and public and commercial landscape irrigation (parks, ball fields, highway medians, cemeteries, and other large-scale grass or landscaping areas) that have a consumptive water use permit from the local water management district specifically for golf course or landscape uses. This category does not include individual household lawn irrigation withdrawals. Fresh surface water accounted for 216 Mgal/d of the fresh water withdrawn while 182 Mgal/d was withdrawn from fresh groundwater sources. Palm Beach County accounted...

Water withdrawals include 2,215 Mgal/d of fresh water and 170 Mgal/d of saline water. Fresh groundwater accounted for 1,909 Mgal/d of the water withdrawn and 169 Mgal/d of the saline groundwater withdrawn for public supply. Miami-Dade County accounted for the largest amount of fresh groundwater withdrawn (339 Mgal/d), Hillsborough County accounted for the largest amount of fresh surface water withdrawn (135 Mgal/d) and all of the saline surface water withdrawn (1 Mgal/d), and Lee County accounted for the largest amount of saline groundwater withdrawn (28 Mgal/d). All of the saline water...

This data release contains input data and programs (scripts) used to estimate monthly water demand for retail customers of Providence Water, located in Providence, Rhode Island. Explanatory data and model outputs are from July 2014 through June 2021. Models of per capita (for single-family residential customers) or per connection (for multi-family residential, commercial, and industrial customers) water use were developed using multiple linear regression. The dependent variables, provided by Providence Water, are the monthly number of connections and gallons of water delivered to single- and multi-family residential, commercial, and industrial connections. Potential independent variables (from online sources) are...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Use Program is responsible for compiling and disseminating the Nation's water-use data. Working in cooperation with local, State, and Federal agencies, the USGS has published an estimate of water use in the United States every 5 years, beginning in 1950. These 5-year compilations contain water-use estimates that are aggregated to the county level in the United States. This USGS data release contains summaries of method codes used in the 2015 national compilation of public supply, self-supplied domestic, thermoelectric, and irrigation water-use data. This data release also contains the county-level water-use estimates that support the evaluations in Luukkonen and others...
Lithium concentrations in untreated groundwater from 1,464 public-supply wells, 1,676 domestic-supply wells, and 1,560 monitoring wells distributed across 33 principal aquifers in the United States were evaluated for spatial variations and possible explanatory factors. For context, lithium concentrations are compared to a drinking-water only threshold (60 micrograms per liter) and a Health-Based Screening Level (HBSL, 10 micrograms per liter). These thresholds were exceeded in 9% and 45% of samples from public-supply wells and in 6% and 37% from domestic-supply wells, respectively. Exceedances were most frequent for arid regions and older groundwater. Groundwater lithium concentrations were highest in unconsolidated...

The dataset documents the spatial and temporal variability of nutrients and related water quality parameters at high spatial resolution in the North Delta of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta of California, USA. The dataset includes surface mapping, depth profile, and discrete data for nitrate, ammonium, phosphate, dissolved organic carbon, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, and chlorophyll as well as information about phytoplankton community composition. Data-collection cruises were conducted over two time periods in July and October 2018 across two flooded islands with dense submerged aquatic vegetation beds. Little Hastings Tract received an herbicide treatment by the California Department of Boating...
In 2015, the total amount of water withdrawn in Florida was estimated at 15,319 million gallons per day (Mgal/d). This includes 9,598 Mgal/d of saline water and 5,721 Mgal/d of fresh water. Water for public supply accounted for the majority of fresh water withdrawn (2,215 Mgal/d) followed closely by agricultural self-supplied (2,089 Mgal/d) for 2015. The remaining fresh water was withdrawn for power generation (434 Mgal/d), commercial-industrial-mining self-supplied (409 Mgal/d), recreational-landscape irrigation (397 Mgal/d), and domestic self-supplied (177 Mgal/d). Water withdrawn for power generation accounted for the majority of saline water withdrawn (9,425 Mgal/d) for 2015, followed by public supply (170...
This data release includes grids representing the depth and thickness of drinking-water withdrawal zones, polygons of hydrogeologic settings, an inventory of sources of well construction data, and summaries of data comparisons used to assess the depth of groundwater used for drinking-water supplies in the United States. Well construction data sources are documented in Table1_DataSources.xlsx. Data comparisons using the Mann-Whitney test to assess similarity between hydrogeologic settings were used to justify combining data where they were sparse (compare_neighbors_all_domestic.txt and compare_neighbors_all_public.txt). Water-supply-well depth varies geographically by water use and the type of well, which illustrates...

Data was collected in the Cache Slough Complex located in the northern San Francisco Estuary to characterize water quality parameters at high spatial resolution. Data collection was conducted on three separate occasions: October 2017, May 2018, and October 2018. Data set includes nitrate, ammonium, ortho-phosphate, dissolved organic carbon, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, chlorophyll, stable isotopes including water isotopes. Measurements were used to calculate evaporation to inflow ratios and water residence time.
This dataset provides the calculated proportion of people using publicly supplied groundwater (PSGF) for each county in the conterminous U.S. The county boundaries and the PSGF represent the year 2015.

This model archive contains files for a set of groundwater flow, particle tracking, and management optimization models that simulate the area around the Navy-Northrop-Grumman contamination plume on Long Island, New York. These models were developed as in insets from the Long Island Regional “parent” Model, from which perimeter boundary conditions were inherited. In addition to input and output files for these models, this archive contains the modeling workflow python code and source data used to build the model. These materials have been included for repeatability and decision transparency.

This dataset consists of a raster and surficial shapefiles for the Neversink River watershed, NY, that were generated using ArcGIS Pro's deep learning functionality. The shapefiles contain polygons that show the locations of shallow-to-exposed bedrock and alluvium-filled valleys, while the raster provides estimated minimum sediment thicknesses in the areas between the shallow/exposed bedrock and alluvium-filled valleys. The deep learning model that generated shallow/exposed bedrock and alluvium polygons was trained on existing geologic maps of New York and Pennsylvania. Minimum sediment thicknesses were estimated by applying an inverse distance weighting interpolation to measurements of stream incision depth and...
This data release documents the spatial and temporal variability of nutrients and related water quality parameters at high spatial resolution in the western and central portion of the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta of California, USA. The data set includes water residence time, nitrate, ammonium, phosphate, dissolved organic carbon, temperature, conductivity, dissolved oxygen, turbidity, and chlorophyll. Data collection were conducted over six days between August 2015 - July 2016 to document conditions prior to, during, and following the installation of a rock barrier on False Barrier to limit salt intrusion.
