Mid-sized mammals (i.e., mesomammals) fulfill important ecological roles, serving as essential scavengers, predators, pollinators, and seed dispersers in the ecosystems they inhabit. Consequently, declines in mesomammal populations have the potential to disrupt ecological processes and degrade ecosystems. However, ecosystems characterized by high functional redundancy, where multiple species can fulfill similar ecological roles, may be less impacted by the loss of mesomammals and other vertebrates. The Greater Everglades Ecosystem in southern Florida is a historically biodiverse region that has recently been impacted by multiple anthropogenic threats, most notably the introduction of the Burmese python (Python bivittatus)....

The Louisiana State Legislature created the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) in order to conserve, restore, create and enhance Louisiana's coastal wetlands. The wetland restoration plans developed pursuant to these acts specifically require an evaluation of the effectiveness of each coastal wetlands restoration project in achieving long-term solutions to arresting coastal wetlands loss. This data set includes mosaicked aerial photographs for the East Marsh Island Marsh Creation (TV-21) project for 2021. This data is used as a basemap land-water classification. It also serves as a visual tool for project managers to help them identify any obvious problems or land loss within their...

Twenty-three long-term mangrove vegetation plots were established between 1992-1997 within the southwest coastal region of Everglades National Park (Florida, USA) to quantify tree damage and recovery following hurricanes and to understand the effects of global climate change. Many of the mangrove vegetation plots were associated with hydrology, soil porewater, and soil surface elevation monitoring stations. Within each plot, trees were tagged, mapped, and identified to species. The diameter at breast height (DBH) and status of each tree were measured at one to two year intervals through 2011. This dataset includes 51,730 tree measurements.
This data release contains land cover-derived statistics regarding estuarine vegetated wetland area change within estuary drainage areas along the conterminous U.S. This dataset includes net change in estuarine vegetated wetland area based on National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Coastal Change Assessment Program (C-CAP) 1996 and 2016 land cover data. Net change was assessed between estuarine vegetated wetlands (i.e., estuarine marshes, mangroves, non-mangrove estuarine woody wetlands, and salt pannes, depending on vegetation coverage and type) and the following other landcover classes: 1) water; 2) unconsolidated shore; 3) freshwater woody wetlands; 4) freshwater marsh; 5) upland; and 6) agriculture....

These data are daily summary checklists of all bird species observed at U.S. Geological Survey, Alaska Science Center (ASC) field camps. Data include species observation details such as observers, dates, location, and number of individuals seen. Field camps were located in Northern, Western, Interior, Southwest, Southcentral, and Southeast Alaska, Baja California Sur Mexico, and northern Russia. This data release includes individual lengths, total dry mass, and taxonomic classification for a subset of adult aquatic insects captured emerging from the surface of wadeable wetlands in cropland and grassland landscapes across a salinity/hydrology gradient (N = 14 wetlands in 2015, N = 15 wetlands in 2016). Sampling was completed in late spring, after ice off was complete and during the local bird breeding season. Wetlands were situated on 3 USFWS Waterfowl Protection Areas and 2 private farms in Stutsman County, North Dakota, USA. Other portions of this data such as sampling locations and pesticide concentrations are reported in Kraus et al. 2021 (https://doi.org/10.5066/P971S7IV)

This data set is comprised of one table with sampling information and National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) BioProject accession numbers for sequence information of this amplicon-based study targeting Elodea canadensis and E. nuttallii in freshwater systems of Alaska from environmental samples. Highly conserved primers which can differentiate these species of interest were developed for four portions of Elodea mtDNA genes (ITS1-5.8S, atpB-rbcL, and two variations of trnL-trnF). The reference sequences and conserved primer sets to identify species present were developed using publicly available data from NCBI GenBank (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/genbank/).

We conducted a multi-year study (2016-2019) to quantify sources of duckling mortality, identify predator type, and estimate survival rates for Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos) and Gadwall (Mareca strepera) ducklings within Suisun Marsh, California.
