The SRLCC provided funds to the states of Arizona and New Mexico to support development of the states Crucial Habitat Assessment Tools (CHATs) which provide a decision support system to better incorporate wildlife values, sensitive animals and plants, and important ecosystem features into land use decision-making to reduce conflicts and surprises.Several states have released wildlife mapping tools that are the foundation for displaying crucial wildlife and corridor information. The state and regional CHATs are non-regulatory, and give project planners and the general public access to credible scientific data on a broad scale for use in project analysis, siting and planning. This includes large-scale development...

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration, working with members of the scientific community, has determined that early manned lunar exploration will be oriented primarily to investigations in the geosciences. Exploration by man on the lunar surface will, therefore be geological, geophysical, geochemical, geochemical, and surveying in nature, and will be directed to the physical and chemical characteristics of the lunar crust, and to measurements that will furnish data pertinent to understanding the physics of the Moon. Scientific exploration of the Moon will provide information fundamental to understanding the origin and composition of the Solar System, and engineering data important to the design of specific...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has compiled a geodatabase containing mineral-related geospatial data for 19 countries of interest in the Indo-Pacific region (area of study): Bangladesh, Bhutan, Brunei, Burma, Fiji, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nauru, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, Singapore, Solomon Islands, South Korea (Republic of Korea), Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Timor-Leste, and Vietnam. The data can be used in analyses of the extractive fuel and nonfuel mineral industries integral for the successful operation of the mineral industries within the area of study. This geodatabase reflects the USGS ongoing commitment to its mission of understanding the nature and distribution of global mineral commodity...

This dataset provides a watershed index of surface drinking water importance, a watershed index of forest importance to surface drinking water, and a watershed index to highlight the extent to which development, fire, and insects and disease threaten forests important for surface drinking water. This symbology for this layer is based on the index value for insect and disease threat to forests which are important to surface drinking water on a range from 1-100.

This dataset explores the physical reality of the population growth from 2005 to 2060 without changes to existing land use policy or gross urban density. The land use suitability analysis displayed in this dataset was performed by the GeoPlan Center for 1000 Friends of Florida and is a companion study to "A Time for Leadership: Growth Management and Florida 2060" prepared for 1000 Friends of Florida by researchers at Georgia Tech's Center for Quality Growth and Regional Development. GeoPlan's project was undertaken using relatively straightforward geographic information systems (GIS) suitability analysis constructed on a foundation of clearly articulated assumptions. The three key assumptions were: 1)...

The Forest to Faucets dataset provides a watershed index of surface drinking water importance, a watershed index of forest importance to surface drinking water, and a watershed index to highlight the extent to which development, fire, and insects and disease threaten forests important for surface drinking water. This layer displays the percent of the HUC watershed that is threatened bu insects and disease. For further information, see the methods paper titled, “From the Forest to the Faucet: Drinking Water and Forests in the US” located at http://www.fs.fed.us/ecosystemservices/FS_Efforts/forests2faucets.shtml.

This dataset provides a watershed index of surface drinking water importance, a watershed index of forest importance to surface drinking water, and a watershed index to highlight the extent to which development, fire, and insects and disease threaten forests important for surface drinking water. The results of this assessment provides information that can identify areas of interest for protecting surface drinking water quality. The spatial dataset can be incorporated into broad-scale planning, such as the State Forest Action Plans, and can be incorporated into existing decision support tools that currently lack spatial data on important areas for surface drinking water. This project also sets the groundwork for...
Abstract (from http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0959378014000065): Climate change impacts threaten existing development efforts and achieving future sustainability goals. To build resilience and societal preparedness towards climate change, integration of adaptation into development is being increasingly emphasized. To date, much of the adaptation literature has been theoretical, reflecting the absence of empirical data from activities on the ground. However, the Funds established under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change and managed by the Global Environment Facility, the Least Developed Countries Fund, the Special Climate Change Fund and the Strategic Priority for Adaptation,...
AbstractUrban development is a principal driver of landscape change affecting the integrity of ecological systems and the capacity of the landscape to support species. We developed an urban growth model (SPRAWL), evaluated it with hindcasting, and used it to simulate urban growth across the northeastern United States between 2010 and 2080 under four alternative scenarios. In the model, urban growth is constrained by demand for new development for each time step at the subregional scale. Demand is subsequently allocated to local application panes (5 km on a side within 15 km window) using a unique landscape context matching algorithm, such that the more historical development that occurred in the matched training...

Surveys for Papilio godeffroyi eggs were conducted on 117 individually marked host trees (Micromelum minutum) in eight forest stands on Tutuila Island, American Samoa, at approximately monthly intervals during 2013-2014. The eight host tree stands were mostly in or adjacent to the National Park of American Samoa (NPSA), but one stand was sampled near the western tip of Tutuila, outside NPSA. Intact Papilio eggs were collected and brought into the laboratory at American Samoa Community College to be reared to determine their reproductive outcome and rates of parasitism. Eggs were maintained in environmental chambers with fresh host plant foliage until a Papilio larvae hatched or parasitoid wasps emerged. The number,...

These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. Using available aerial photos from approximately a 15-year period, changes in timber harvest were mapped in the Little North Santiam River Basin, Oregon. Timber harvest plots as seen on digital orthophotos from 1995, 2000, 2005, and 2009 were digitized and attributed based on harvest type or purpose: clearcut, thinning, or development.
