This data release includes time-series data from two monitoring stations in a small drainage basin burned in the 2014 Silverado Fire, Orange County, California. One station (upper station) is located in the headwaters of the study area (33 45’39.10”N, 117 35’17.48”W, WGS84). The other station (lower station) is located at the outlet of the study area (33 45’04.61”N, 117 35’12.54”W). The data were collected between November 15, 2014 and January 14, 2016. The data include continuous 1-minute time series of rainfall and soil water content recorded at the both stations and intermittent (during rain storms) 50-Hz time series of flow-induced ground vibrations recorded by geophones at the lower station. We produce the USGS 2018 one-year probabilistic seismic hazard forecast for the central and eastern United States from induced and natural earthquakes. For consistency, the updated 2018 forecast is developed using the same probabilistic seismicity-based methodology as applied in the two previous forecasts for 2016 and 2017. Rates of earthquakes across the U.S. (M ≥ 3.0) grew rapidly between 2008 and 2015 but have steadily declined over the past three years, especially in areas of Oklahoma and southern Kansas where fluid injection has decreased. These are scanned recordings from the Rangely earthquake control experiment that took place from 1969-1974 in the area surrounding Rangely, Colorado. Data were telemetered to Menlo Park, California, where they were recorded on develocorder films. Twelve stations with a total of fourteen channels were recorded and are available in this data set. High-resolution multichannel minisparker seismic-reflection and chirp sub-bottom data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in July of 2018 between Point Conception and Coal Oil Point in the Santa Barbara Channel, California. Data were collected aboard the USGS R/V Parke Snavely during field activity 2018-645-FA. Data were acquired to support the USGS geologic hazards projects to aide hazard assessment of shallow faulting, slope stability, and submarine landslides along the western Santa Barbara Channel. These data and information are intended for science researchers, students from elementary through college, policy makers, and general public.

We performed laboratory time-dependent creep and stress-oscillation earthquake simulations in uniaxial loading in compression and tension on four blocks of porphyritic dacite collected from pyroclastic deposits of Mt. Fugen, of the Unzen-dake volcanic complex in Japan (referred to as ‘Unzen volcano’). Experiments were carried out in the Experimental Volcanology and Geothermal Research Laboratory at the University of Liverpool. The Atlas of ShakeMaps (~14,100 earthquakes, 1900-2020) provides a consistent and quantitative description of the distribution of shaking intensity for calibrating earthquake loss estimation methodologies, like those used in the USGS Prompt Assessment of Global Earthquakes for Response (PAGER) system. Version 4 of the Atlas includes a vastly expanded compilation of ShakeMaps for consequential and widely felt earthquakes using updated ShakeMap (Version 4) software. We present a preliminary point inventory of the landslides associated with the M7.2 Nippes, Haiti, earthquake that occurred on August 14, 2021. The mapping was part of rapid response efforts to identify hazards for situational awareness and emergency response by humanitarian aid organizations. This inventory accompanies an Open-File Report detailing the hazards presented by the landslides triggered by the earthquake (Martinez et al., 2021). This dataset consists of the processed ground motions from 96 earthquake rupture scenarios for M7 earthquakes on the Salt Lake City segment of the Wasatch fault. Details about the simulation method, ground motion variability and sensitivity of the ground motions to the kinematic rupture parameters are described in the accompanying manuscript. Simulated data is distributed as 5-percent damped response spectral accelerations that support the conclusions of the accompanying manuscript.

In May 2015, we acquired high-resolution seismic profiles near six strong motion instruments located in Napa and Solano Counties, California. These strong motion instruments recorded horizontal peak accelerations (PGAs) from 0.329g to 0.611g, which were among the highest recorded in the Napa area during the 24 August 2014 Mw 6.0 South Napa Earthquake. Our goal is to measure the seismic velocities of the underlying geologic material at each strong motion site using P- and S-wave refraction tomography and analysis of surface waves, especially in the upper 30 m of the subsurface.

This report includes the previously unpublished primary and derivative data sets that underpin the construction of the three dimensional (3D) geologic map of the upper part of the Earth's crust beneath the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta, California. The primary data is X,Y,Z locations of stratigraphic horizons and, to a much lesser extent, geologic structures where penetrated by oil and gas wells in the subsurface as recorded in well logs and well records. In April of 2021, the U.S. Geological Survey conducted a high-resolution seismic survey at Mee Ranch in Monterey County, California. Both passive- and active-source seismic data were acquired using DTCC SmartSolo 3-component nodal seismograph systems ("nodes"), which continuously recorded data at rates up to 2000 samples per second. For passive-source acquisition, a 6x5 grid of nodes was deployed for several weeks before and during the active source shooting.
