The data presented in this data release includes 11 field/water quality parameters, concentrations of 16 nutrients/anions, dissolved organic carbon, 14 organic contaminants, net estrogenicity concentrations, and 51 inorganic constituents in surface water collected twice from 28 stream sites and collected once from 2 stream sites in the Shenandoah Valley (Virginia and West Virginia, USA), in the summer of 2021 (Table_1_Sites and Table_2_Methods). This data release includes sampling location data, field-collected water chemistry data, cation and anion concentration data for water and tissues of submerged aquatic vegetation, aquatic insect larvae, adult aquatic insects and riparian spiders from 35 first- and second-order sub-alpine streams that ranged over several orders of magnitude in metal concentrations but were similar in elevation, geology, and stream morphology. Sampling was completed in late summer, after snowmelt runoff was complete and as the streams approached baseflow conditions.

Wetland restoration efforts conducted by the Coastal Wetlands Planning, Protection and Restoration Act (CWPPRA) in Louisiana rely on monitoring efforts to determine the efficacy of these efforts. The Coastwide Reference Monitoring System (CRMS) was developed to assist in a multiple-reference approach that uses aspects of hydrogeomorphic functional assessments and probabilistic sampling for monitoring. Land-water data was derived from imagery acquired at 350 feet using unmanned aerial systems (UAS) for 6 separate study locations using the Ricoh GR II camera. Three sites are healthy marsh and three sites are degraded marshes. For each study site, ground control markers were established and surveyed in using Real Time Kinematic (RTK) survey equipment. The imagery collected has been processed to produce a land-water classification dataset for scientific research. The land-water data will not only quantify how much marsh is being affected, but the data will also provide a spatial aspect as to where these degrading marsh fragmentations are occurring. These data were compiled to evaluate the potential impact various environmental conditions may have on native fish populaitons through predation. Introduced warm-water sport fishes present a high predation risk for juvenile native fishes, but observations of juvenile native fish surviving and recruiting in some rare cases led us to question what environmental conditions might be responsible for these trends. These data were compiled to allow for a relative comparison of predation effectiveness between a suite of warm-water predators under a variety of environmental conditions. Mean numbers of prey fish surviving in replicated overnight laboratory predation trials were quantified.

These data are spatial polygon data and remote sensing image-based classification maps of surface water and vegetation species for 2012 along the Rio Grande River in Big Bend National Park in Texas. The geographic extent of the classification spans from the end of Mariscal Canyon to 5 km after the end of Boquillas Canyon, totaling approximately 77 Km of the river. The maps are also restricted to a digitized extent of riparian vegetation that is defined by the alluvial valley of the Rio Grande River. This data release contains model inputs used to estimate surface water greenhouse gas fluxes from two large arid reservoirs, Lake Powell and Lake Mead. The release also contains empirical, spatially explicit water quality and greenhouse gas data from a single field survey conducted in Lake Powell in July of 2017. Finally, this release contains surface area estimates of shallow (< 15m) tributary regions of Lake Powell under different water level scenarios.

These data represent time-series of water table depth from nine monitoring wells, soil moisture from three depths at a single monitoring location, and meteorological data from a weather station at the Panola Mountain Research Watershed (PMRW) in Rockdale County Georgia. Water-level data were logged at a 5 minute interval. In total, the data span from April 2017 to April 2020 but some wells did not get instrumented with pressure transducers until May 2018 so there are some minor differences in record length. We developed and validated conventional and quantitative real-time PCR assays for the detection of DNA from the myxozoan parasite Tetracapsuloides bryosalmonae, the causative agent of proliferative kidney disease in fish. Assays were tested on fish tissue and on field-collected water samples to assess diagnostic and environmental DNA capabilities. The specificity, sensitivity, and broad applicability of the present assays surpass previous methods for detecting T. bryosalmonae DNA from fish tissue and water samples.

USGS researchers with the Patterns in the Landscape – Analyses of Cause and Effect (PLACE) project are releasing a collection of high-frequency surface water map composites derived from daily Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) imagery. Using Google Earth Engine, the team developed customized image processing steps and adapted the Dynamic Surface Water Extent (DSWE) to generate surface water map composites in California for 2003-2019 at a 250-m pixel resolution. Daily maps were merged to create 6, 3, 2, and 1 composite(s) per month corresponding to approximately 5-day, 10-day, 15-day, and monthly products, respectively. This dataset contains hourly average groundwater level time-series for 19 monitoring wells at the Panola Mountain Research Watershed (PMRW) from January 2001 to October 2002. The data was used in a hydrologic modeling study to test a model formulation that allowed for bi-direction fluxes between groundwater and surface water in a bucket type hydrologic model. Some wells had missing data so record lengths were not equal. The water level data were quality controlled; unexplained peaks and shifts were removed, and these periods were indicated as having no data.
