Summary
Field spikes were prepared at 207 stream and river sites as part of the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) National Water Quality Assessment (NAWQA) project between December, 2012, and September, 2015. At the field site, a depth-and width-integrated environmental sample was collected, and one subsample of the environmental sample was spiked with a known amount of a spike mixture. Summary

This dataset contains a summary of the spike recoveries for 221 pesticide compounds analyzed by LC-MS/MS at the NWQL in surface water field matrices collected during the period from Dec 2012 to Sept 2015.
The field spike data were collected to evaluate pesticide recovery from the time of field sampling through final analysis at the laboratory, as part of U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) sampling of rivers and streams in the National Water Quality Assessment project (NAWQA). These data provide information on analytical method performance in surface water field matrices for Schedule 2437, analysis of pesticides in filtered water by direct injection liquid chromatography with tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS), at the USGS National Water Quality Laboratory. These data are used to supplement the quality control data collected for the 2013 Midwest Stream Quality Assessment (MSQA) study, which had no usable field spike samples because a faulty spike solution was used to prepare the MSQA field spikes. The same water sampling procedures and analytical method (Schedule 2437) to determine pesticides in water were used at the sites in this dataset, and in the MSQA study. The time period for this dataset (December 2012-September 2015) brackets the MSQA study (May-August 2013).
