This USGS data release contains datasets, metadata, and figures associated with estimating nitrate loads and yields from groundwater to streams in the Chesapeake Bay watershed based on land use and geology. Purpose

The datasets were created to quantify the concentration, load and yield of nitrate in groundwater and estimate a stream segment’s nitrate concentration in baseflow across the Chesapeake Bay watershed. This resulted in a geospatial data layer of the estimated annual loads and yields of nitrate from groundwater to streams. This approach can be reproduced for other areas of the country if there are sufficient observations of nitrate concentrations in streams at baseflow.
