Summary

In 2015, the total amount of water withdrawn for self-supplied commercial-industrial-mining uses in Florida was estimated at 412 million gallons per day (Mgal/d). Water withdrawals include 409 Mgal/d of fresh water and 3 Mgal/d of saline water. Fresh groundwater accounted for 298 Mgal/d of the fresh water withdrawn while the remaining 111 Mgal/d was withdrawn from fresh surface water sources. All of the saline water (3 Mgal/d) was withdrawn from surface water. Polk County accounted for the largest amount of fresh groundwater withdrawn (41 Mgal/d) followed by Taylor County (40 Mgal/d), while Putnam County accounted for the largest amount of fresh surface water withdrawn (24 Mgal/d) followed by Escambia County (23 Mgal/d).

Purpose

The purpose of this table is to provide estimates of commercial-industrial-mining self-supplied water withdrawals by County in Florida for 2015 as part of an ongoing effort between the State of Florida, the five water management districts, and the U.S Geological Survey (USGS) Caribbean-Florida Water Science Center to collect, compile, and publish water-use data every five years in Florida. Five-year compilations of water use have been published for Florida since 1970 for Florida. The data are also supplied to the USGS National Water-Use Program as part of a similar program to collect, compile, and publish water-use data for the United States. Table 5 provides 2015 commercial-industrial-mining self-supplied water withdrawal totals by county and water source. Water withdrawals are differentiated between ground and surface water for both fresh and saline sources for all 67 counties in Florida.
