Summary

This data release contains the analytical results and the evaluated source data files of a geospatial analysis for identifying areas in Alaska that may have potential for sediment-hosted Pb-Zn (lead-zinc) deposits. The spatial analysis is based on queries of statewide source datasets Alaska Geochemical Database (AGDB3), Alaska Resource Data File (ARDF), and Alaska Geologic Map (SIM3340) within areas defined by 12-digit HUCs (subwatersheds) from the National Watershed Boundary dataset. The packages of files available for download are: 1. The results in geodatabase format are in SedPbZn_Results_gdb.zip. The analytical results for sediment-hosted Pb-Zn deposits are in a polygon feature class which contains the points scored for each [...]

Purpose

The purpose of this spatial analysis is to examine and understand the distribution of sediment-hosted Pb-Zn deposits in Alaska. This GIS-based analysis uses published datasets of geochemistry, mineral resource data, and geology to identify areas that may be prospective for this type of mineral deposit. The analysis also identifies areas with limited data, and could be used to highlight areas needing additional studies. A full description of the analysis process and results is published in OFR2020-1147.

Provenance

The data used to create the datasets used in this analysis are USGS publications: 1) Alaska Resource Data File - USGS OFR 2008-1225; 2) Alaska Geochemical Database, ver. 3 - USGS Data Series 1117; 3) Geologic map of Alaska - USGS SIM 3340; and 4) Watershed Boundary Dataset - The National Map. Level 1 revision was completed on May 20, 2021 by Keith Labay. Changes were made to the organization and descriptions of the files that were an improvement over what was originally posted.
