Summary

The State of Louisiana experienced widespread flooding during the extreme rainfall events of March and August 2016. The City of Central, Louisiana, which lies above the confluence of the Amite and Comite Rivers, is bordered on the east and west, respectively, by these rivers. The city incurred extensive damage from both events, in particular the August 2016 flood in which the river basins received up to 30 inches of documented rainfall. Many streamgages in the area recorded peak-of-record flood levels from the event. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the City of Central, created a digital flood inundation map library to depict estimated areal extents and depth of flooding along 14.5 and 20.2 mile reach lengths [...]

Purpose

The attached zip folder called “Amite_Comite_Maps1_23” contains 23 separate folders; each folder consists of a shapefile (numbered 3920-4320) and its corresponding raster (numbered 1-23). The attached zip folder called “Amite_Comite_Maps24_51” is organized into 28 folders, each with a shapefile (numbered 4321-4628) and its matching raster (numbered 24-51). The attached zip folder called “Amite_Comite_Maps52_75” contains 24 folders with paired shapefiles (numbered 4722-5027) and rasters (52-75). The attached zip folder called “Amite_Comite_Maps76_103” is organized into 28 folders with paired shapefiles (numbered 5028-5434) and rasters (76-103). The attached zip folder called “Amite_Comite_Maps104_127” provides 24 folders with shapefiles (numbered 5530-5935) and rasters (104-127). The shapefiles have been named according to stage elevation of the Amite and Comite Rivers. For example, “amcentLA_5530.shp” is named for an Amite River stage of 55 ft and Comite River stage of 30 ft. Additionally, metadata is included for each shapefile and raster pair.
