Due to declining water levels and increasing salinity in the Salton Sea which may increase the hazards to wildlife, the U.S. Geological Survey and U.S. Bureau of Reclamation are re-evaluating selenium concentrations in the region. As part of this work, selenium concentrations in water and sediment samples and selected other inorganic constituents were compiled from published reports, public databases, and unpublished archives into a tabulated spreadsheet. This spreadsheet represents a rapid synthesis of available data on selenium concentrations in water and sediment in the region surrounding the Salton Sea, however it does not include all data ever published in the region. Additionally, the data compilation was...

The USGS, in cooperation with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, compiled a map of geomorphic features along a 140-km segment of the main stem Klamath River below Iron Gate Dam, CA. Flood disturbance within the study reach is produced by the combined effect of natural flows and reservoir releases. The physical response of the Klamath River to flood disturbance is strongly dependent upon sediment storage in bars and floodplains. The map provides a summary of channel and riparian features that was used to estimate sediment storage in bars and floodplains. Study results will be useful for interpreting linkages among physical and biological processes and for evaluating...

Nitrapyrin is a nitrification inhibitor that is co-applied with N-fertilizer in agroecosystems. Over the course of one year (March 2016 to June 2017), 192 water samples from seven streams across Iowa and Illinois were analyzed for nitrapyrin, its degradate 6-chloropicolinic acid (6-CPA), and three widely used herbicides acetochlor, atrazine, and metolachlor. Additional environmental samples were collected and analyzed in spring 2017: 63 water samples from eight subsurface drains, and 33 soil samples from a field in Iowa that received direct application of nitrapyrin (only for nitrapyrin and herbicides). Nitrapyrin was detected in all seven streams (56% detection) with concentrations ranging from 4 to 1,200 ng/L;...

This digital dataset contains the monthly inflows and diversions to the surface-water network in the updated Central Valley Hydrologic Model (CVHM2) for water years 1922-2019. The surface-water network simulates the Central Valley’s complex conveyance network through the Streamflow Routing Package (SFR2) and the Farm-Process (FMP4) at 65 inflow locations with 271 stream segments and 13 bifurcations, and 571 diversion locations providing 564 of semi-routed diversions and 7 non-routed diversions. The semi-routed deliveries are routed through the simulated surface-water network, while the non-routed delivery is simulated through linkages between the SFR2 and FMP4 packages in MODFLOW-OWHM. Surface water data for CVHM2...

This dataset contains geochemical and other information for 268 samples of produced water from the Lost Hills and North and South Belridge Oil Fields. Produced water is water coexisting with oil and gas. The historical produced water chemistry data was compiled from preexisting datasets and scanned images into a numerical dataset to characterize produced water chemical characteristics. Each sample is identified by its API (American Petroleum Institute) number, excluding the state code, which is 04 in all California wells, latitude and longitude, well name, formation name, perforation interval, and date tested. The geochemical analyses include major ions, some minor ions, total dissolved solids (TDS), pH, specific...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and Air Force Civil Engineering Center (AFCEC) have entered into a cooperative agreement to refine the hydrogeology in the Northeast AFRL and Arroyos groundwater areas of the Air Force Research Laboratory of Edwards Air Force Base. As part of these efforts, two electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) surveys- AFRL9 and AFRL10- were collected in the vicinity of the Mound Fault identified by Cyr and Miller (2023) to better determine the position of these faults. Electrical resistivity tomography is a direct current geophysical method that is used to estimate the subsurface distribution of the electrical resistivity (measured in ohm-meters; ohm-m) of a material, and is based on the...

The U.S. Geological Survey collected samples from 50 public supply wells during two distinct sampling episodes (2004-2005 and 2014) on the North-Central California coast. During each sampling episode, the samples were analyzed for 160 water-quality constituents, including water-quality indicators, nutrients, major and minor ions, trace elements, volatile organic compounds, and pesticide compounds. The paired-sample results were submitted to an evaluation method to determine whether or not step trends had occurred in the concentrations of each constituent. Quality-control samples were collected at a subset of the wells. The datasets presented here consist of a list and description of the 160 constituents, an Excel...
