This data set defines boundaries of oil and gas project areas, greater sage-grouse (Centrocercus urophasianus) core areas, and non-core and non-project areas within the Wyoming Landscape Conservation Initiative (WLCI; southwestern Wyoming). Specifically, the data represents results from the manuscript “Combined influences of future oil and gas development and climate on potential Sage-grouse declines and redistribution” for low oil and gas development, high population size, and no climate component. The oil and gas development scenario were based on an energy footprint model that simulates well, pad, and road patterns for oil and gas recovery options that vary in well types (vertical and directional) and number...

This sampling frame is a set of grid-based finite-area frames spanning Canada, the United States, and Mexico. The grid for the United States is broken into individual grids for the continental United States, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico. Alaska is combined with Canada into a single grid. Each country/state/territory extent consists of four nested sampling grids at 50x50km, 10x10km, 5x5km, and 1x1km resolutions. The original 10x10km continental United States grid was developed by the Forest Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture for use in the interagency “Bat Grid” monitoring program in the Pacific Northwest and was expanded across Canada, the United States, and Mexico for the North American Bat Monitoring Program (NABat)....

River bathymetry surveys were collected in the summer and fall of 2016 along the lower Chetco River, Oregon. These surveys were collected using a real time kinematic global positioning system (RTK-GPS) and an echo sounder mounted on a motorboat and also behind a kayak at various cross sections and longitudinal profiles along the river. These datasets were collected in support of a funded effort investigating the cause of salt water intrusion that has taken place at the water intake facility for Harbor City, Oregon. The surveys were collected at sections approximately 0.4 river miles downstream to 0.8 river miles upstream of the Harbor City water intake structure and also at the city of Brookings water intake facility,...

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) conducted a bathymetric survey of the White River immediately downstream of the Beaver Reservoir Dam in Carroll County, Arkansas, on January 22, 2020. Channel-bed elevations were collected to support a USACE hydraulic modeling effort on the White River. Cross-sectional data within the river channel were collected using an acoustic Doppler current profiler (ADCP) coupled with a differentially corrected global positioning system (GPS) receiver. Water-depth data were converted to channel-bed elevation data by subtracting the depth value from the GPS derived water-surface elevation. Additional channel elevations (topographic...

This data release contains coastal wetland synthesis products for the geographic region of north shore Long Island, New York. Metrics for resiliency, including unvegetated to vegetated ratio (UVVR), marsh elevation, and mean tidal range, are calculated for smaller units delineated from a Digital Elevation Model, providing the spatial variability of physical factors that influence wetland health. Through scientific efforts initiated with the Hurricane Sandy Science Plan, the U.S. Geological Survey has been expanding national assessment of coastal change hazards and forecast products to coastal wetlands with the intent of providing Federal, State, and local managers with tools to estimate the vulnerability and ecosystem...

Four boreholes (MW1, MW1UZ, MW2, MW2.1) were drilled in the fall of 2017 and summer of 2018 in upper Redwell Basin, a headwater catchment underlain by hydrothermally altered sedimentary rock in the Elk Mountains near the town of Crested Butte, Colorado. The boreholes were continuously cored using a wireline HQ-sized coring system and sample a combination of Quaternary-aged surficial colluvium and the Cretaceous-aged Mesaverde Formation. In-situ injection-based hydraulic tests were performed in MW1 and MW2 during drilling while advancing using a single-packer apparatus in tandem with an in-line flow meter and interval pressure monitoring. Borehole geophysical logging was performed in MW1, MW1UZ, and MW2.1 in the...

Understanding how sea-level rise will affect coastal landforms and the species and habitats they support is critical for crafting approaches that balance the needs of humans and native species. Given this increasing need to forecast sea-level rise effects on barrier islands in the near and long terms, we are developing Bayesian networks to evaluate and to forecast the cascading effects of sea-level rise on shoreline change, barrier island state, and piping plover habitat availability. We use publicly available data products, such as lidar, orthophotography, and geomorphic feature sets derived from those, to extract metrics of barrier island characteristics at consistent sampling distances. The metrics are then incorporated...

Geophysical measurements and related field data were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) at the Alaska Peatland Experiment (APEX) site in Interior Alaska from 2018 to 2020 to characterize subsurface thermal and hydrologic conditions along a permafrost thaw gradient. The APEX site is managed by the Bonanza Creek LTER (Long Term Ecological Research). In July 2018, soil temperature and moisture sensors were installed at six out of the nine instrument locations (APEX1, APEX2, APEX3, APEX4, APEX7, APEX9). Thermistors (PS103J2, US Sensor, Orange, CA, USA) were placed at depths of 5, 30, 60, 120, and 180 centimeters (cm) with three replicates. Three sites (APEX1, APEX4, APEX9) contained an additional single...

Geospatial datasets were developed to estimate the depth to the top of the Dakota Sandstone in feet below land surface datum within the Ute Mountain Ute Reservation in Colorado. This study was completed by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) in cooperation with the Ute Mountain Ute Tribe. One dataset was created for the contours showing the altitude (in feet) of the top of the Dakota Sandstone (shapefile Kd_talt_hand), and a second dataset was created for polygons representing the outcrops of the Dakota Sandstone (shapefile Dakota_outcrop_poly). These two datasets were used in combination with USGS digital elevation models (DEM) to create a dataset for the depth of the top of the Dakota Sandstone below the land surface...

Digitization of a selection of oil and gas well pad sites in the Piceance region of Western Colorado. A random sample of 146 pad locations from the "Digitized Piceance Oil and Gas Pads of Western Colorado, 2015" were used to identify the locations digitized in this dataset. The 146 polygons spatially intersect polygons in the 2015 shape file, but are not completely contained within the 2015 polygons. Well pad sites were delineated using a modified version of the Rapid Land Cover Mapping protocol (Preston and Kim, 2016). The base imagery used to delineate boundaries is the 2005 National Agriculture Imagery Program (NAIP) imagery. Preston, Todd M, and Kevin Kim. 2016. “Land Cover Changes Associated with Recent Energy...
