Water surface elevations within seven Willamette River off-channel features (OCF; alcoves and side channels) were measured using submerged pressure transducers. Transducers were installed from late May through mid-October, 2016, when discharge of the Willamette River was between approximately 5,500 and 45,000 cubic feet per second at Salem, Oregon (USGS gage 14191000) and 3,500 to 17,500 cubic feet per second at Harrisburg, Oregon (USGS gage 14166000). Pressure transducer sensor depth was measured at all seven sites. For five of the sites, pressure transducer sensor depths were converted to water surface elevations by surveying the water surface at each transducer with a real-time kinematic global positioning system...

This dataset contains the daily average base flow, as determined by hydrograph separation, for 14 watersheds in Gwinnett County, Georgia for October 2001 through September 2020. Hydrograph separations were done using the Web-based Hydrograph Analysis Tool (WHAT) using the simple local minimum method on the daily average streamflows, which are also provided in this dataset. Base flow along with the calculated base-flow index (the proportion of base flow to total flow) were used to characterize groundwater recharge and the relative degree of storm runoff in the watersheds. Base flow was also used as predictor variable in models for estimating streamwater constituent loads for 12 water-quality constituents at 13 of...

This data release contains compiled historical groundwater-withdrawal data for the Coastal Lowlands Aquifer System in Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, and Florida from 1925 to 2018. Most groundwater-withdrawals were distributed to groundwater wells and separated into water-use categories of industrial, production wells, power generation, mining, domestic, irrigation, livestock or commercial. Groundwater-withdrawal data were obtained, where available, from existing database resources hosted by various State and Federal agencies. For Texas, data were obtained from the Texas Water Development Board (TWDB) from both existing Groundwater Availability Models (GAM), and from historical groundwater-withdrawal data....

This part of DS 781 presents data for the transgressive contours for the Point Conception to Hueneme Canyon, California, region. The vector file is included in "TransgressiveContours_PointConceptionToHuenemeCanyon.zip," which is accessible from http://dx.doi.org/10.5066/F7891424. As part of the USGS's California State Waters Mapping Project, a 50-m grid of sediment thickness for the seafloor within the 3-nautical mile limit between Point Conception and Hueneme Canyon was generated from seismic-reflection data collected in 2014 (USGS activity 2014-632-FA) supplemented with outcrop and geologic structure (fault) information following the methodology of Wong (2012). Water depths determined from bathymetry data were...

This polygon shapefile represents model simulated flood-inundation extents for the Muddy River, near Moapa Nevada. A flood frequency analysis was performed at USGS streamgage 09416000 - Muddy River near Moapa, Nevada, to estimate the 50, 20, 10, 4, 2, and 1-percent annual exceedance probability (AEP) flood streamflows. The flood-inundation extents for the 50-, 20-, 10-, 4-, 2-, and 1-percent AEP floods were simulated for the current levee location in 2019 and for the new levee location of the proposed restoration. One model simulation represents the levee at its current (existing) location in 2019 on the east bank of the river and referred to as ‘current conditions (2019).’ A second model simulation removes the...

This dataset contains a thematic [classified] image derived from supervised classification of WorldView-3 satellite imagery. This data release contains a geospatial thematic (raster) image derived from a supervised classification of WorldView-3 satellite imagery obtained during 2020–21. Arundo donax (Arundo cane, giant reed, or Carrizo cane), is an invasive bamboo-like perennial grass most common to riparian areas throughout the southwestern United States. Because it displaces native riparian vegetation, Arundo cane has greatly disrupted the health of riparian ecosystems in the southwestern United States and northern Mexico during the past 50 years. Arundo cane also has created border security problems along the...

This data release contains mean high water (MHW) shorelines for sandy beaches along the coast of California for the years 1998/2002, 2015, and 2016. The MHW elevation in each analysis region (Northern, Central, and Southern California) maintained consistency with that of the National Assessment of Shoreline Change. The operational MHW line was extracted from Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) digital elevation models (DEMs) using the ArcGIS smoothed contour method. The smoothed contour line was then quality controlled to remove artifacts, as well as remove any contour tool interpretation of human-made infrastructure (such as jetties, piers, and sea walls), using satellite imagery from ArcGIS.

Ar/Ar data are reported from eight samples of white mica separated from rock samples collected along the Austroalpine-Pennine boundary in the Central Alps of Switzerland. These samples were collected as part of a Caltech PhD study to examine the tectonic history of this boundary and these argon geochronology data represent one small part of the study. Data are reported from these eight samples together with standards that were irradiated together in the Denver USGS TRIGA reactor. Data from the samples were collected by incremental infrared laser heating of individual grains and analysis by multi-collector mass spectrometry. The reported data have been corrected for blanks, radioactive decay, and interfering nucleogenic...

This ArcGIS shapefile shows the known locations of beaver dams in the Tualatin Basin. The dam location information was generated by multiple local agencies, groups, and organizations. The local sources had identified the beaver dams between 2011 and 2019. USGS worked with these local sources to combine all data into one inventory.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) computed rasters of pre-solved values for the watersheds draining to the pixel delineation point representing the watershed's mean maximum and minimum January temperature from PRISM 1981-2010 4km data (resampled to 30m resolution). These values, which cover the conterminous United States, will be served in the National StreamStats Fire-Hydrology application to describe delineated watersheds (https://streamstats.usgs.gov/). The StreamStats application provides access to spatial analysis tools that are useful for water-resources planning and management, and for engineering and design purposes. The map-based user interface can be used to delineate drainage areas, to retrieve basin...

These values, which cover the conterminous United States at a scale of 30m pixel size, will be served in the National StreamStats Fire-Hydrology application to describe delineated watersheds ( https://streamstats.usgs.gov/ ). Iron oxide-apatite (IOA) deposits of the Adirondack Mountains of New York locally contain elevated REE concentrations (e.g. Taylor and others, 2019). Critical to evaluating resource potential is understanding the genesis of the IOA deposits that host the REE-rich minerals. As part of this effort, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) is conducting bedrock geologic mapping, geochronology, geochemistry, and geophysics in the region. Published and ongoing research demonstrates the spatial association of IOA deposits with the Lyon Mountain Granite Gneiss (LMG), so understanding the relationship of the LMG to the IOA deposits is important for resource evaluation—however the age and origin of the LMG remain contentious. As...

This dataset describes the storm event mean concentrations and loads of total and dissolved forms of phosphorus and nitrogen from paired samples collected in the control and test catchment during the calibration and treatment phase of a leaf removal study in Madison, Wisconsin, USA. Samples were collected in spring 2013 through fall 2015 and are parsed by season where spring represents April – May, summer represents June – September and fall represents October – November. Measured weather parameters for each sampled storm event are also described. These data are interpreted in a journal article published in Science of the Total Environment.
