Migratory species provide ecosystem goods and services throughout their annual cycles, often over long distances. Designing effective conservation solutions for migratory species requires knowledge of both species ecology and the socioeconomic context of their migrations. We present a framework built around the concept that migratory species act as carriers, delivering benefit flows to people throughout their annual cycle that are supported by the network of ecosystems upon which the species depend. We apply this framework to the monarch butterfly (Danaus plexippus) migration of eastern North America by calculating their spatial subsidies. Spatial subsidies are the net ecosystem service flows throughout a species’...

This dataset includes tables with physical information and isotopic data that are used to calculate uranium-series ages (230Th/U method) and initial 234U/238U activity ratios on a suite of mastodon bones from the Cerutti Mastodon site near San Diego, CA area.

The Edwards and Trinity aquifers are major sources of water in south-central Texas and are both classified as major aquifers by the State of Texas. The population in Hays and Comal Counties is rapidly growing, increasing demands on the area's water resources. To help effectively manage the water resources in the area, refined maps and descriptions of the geologic structures and hydrostratigraphic units (HSUs) of the aquifers are needed. This digital map database presents the detailed 1:24,000-scale bedrock hydrostratigraphic map as well as names and descriptions of the geologic and hydrostratigraphic units of the Driftwood and Wimberley 7.5-minute quadrangles in Hays and Comal Counties, Tex. These digital data...

This 1:24,000-scale geologic map includes new geologic mapping as well as compilation and revision of previous geologic maps. Field investigations were conducted from 2009-2011, while also mapping and investigating the geology and hydrology of the Chickasaw National Recreation Area, west of the map area. The Fittstown quadrangle is in the northeastern part of the Arbuckle Mountains. The Arbuckle Mountains are composed of a thick sequence of Paleozoic sedimentary rocks that overlie Early Cambrian and Precambrian igneous rocks; these latter rocks are not exposed in the quadrangle. From middle to late Pennsylvanian time, the Arbuckle Mountains region was folded, faulted, and uplifted. Periods of erosion followed these...

Hourly carbon dioxide (CO2) measurements from four locations of snowpack profiles with vertical spacing of 20 cm over seven winters (2010-2016) at the Glacier Lakes Ecosystem Experiments Site (GLEES) in southern Wyoming. All supporting data on snowpack properties (mostly modeled) are included to calculate hourly snowpack CO2 fluxes from raw data. In addition, turbulence from the adjacent AmeriFlux eddy covariance scaffold are included for statistical analyses. For comparison purposes, manual CO2 measurements collected at the site from 1998-1999 and 2004-2010 are also included. In addition to data, all scripts are provided to calculate fluxes and determine statistical effects of year, replicate and turbulence on...

The Strawberry Butte quadrangle, scale 1:24,000, is a legacy map of the U.S. Geological Survey, made as part of the Montana Investigations Project to provide information on the stratigraphy, structure, and geologic history of the area. The quadrangle encompasses an area of about 132 km2 (51 mi2) in the southwest part of the Little Belt Mountains and is about 26 km (17 mi) north of White Sulphur Springs, county seat of Meagher County, Montana. Two contrasting geologic terranes form the area. The northern two-thirds of the quadrangle are underlain by Paleoproterozoic metagranite that contains some inclusions of metadiorite and biotite gneiss. A veneer of Middle Cambrian sedimentary rocks, including the Flathead Sandstone...
