This data release is a compilation of the locations of airborne geophysical surveys in the United States. The inventory documents public airborne geophysical surveys primarily flown by or contracted by the USGS from 1943 to present. In addition, surveys from the State of Alaska, Department of Natural Resources, Division of Geological and Geophysical Surveys (DGGS): Airborne GeophysWeb, the Bureau of Land Management, the Department of Energy and other state agencies have also been included. The surveys have contributed to studies under USGS programs including Water, Geologic Mapping, Minerals, Energy, Environmental Health, Ecosystems, Hazards, and Climate. This dataset contains locations for known and inventoried...

Near-surface geophysical data from within the Bonita Peak Mining District in Silverton, Colorado, USA are presented. These data were collected in 2019. The data include fiber optic distributed temperature sensing (FO-DTS) and frequency domain electromagnetic induction (FDEM) data collected in and around roughly 1 km reaches of Cement Creek and California Gulch. Additional data, including ground penetrating radar (GPR) and self potential (SP), were gathered from a peatland that intercepts acid mine drainage from Mogul Mine into Cement Creek. The peatland is located off the eastern bank of Cement Creek in the northern portion of the reach surveyed with FO-DTS and FDEM. In 2021, an FO-DTS, FDEM, and magnetometer (MAG)...

Airborne electromagnetic (AEM), magnetic, and radiometric data were acquired in late February to early March 2018 along 2,364 line-kilometers in the Shellmound, Mississippi study area. Data were acquired by CGG Canada Services, Ltd. with three different helicopter-borne sensors: the CGG Canada Services, Ltd. RESOLVE frequency-domain AEM instrument that is used to map subsurface geologic structure at depths up to 100 meters, depending on the subsurface resistivity; a Scintrex CS-3 cesium vapor magnetometer that detects changes in deep (hundreds of meters to kilometers) geologic structure based on variations in the magnetic properties of different formations; and a Radiation Solutions RS-500 spectrometer that detects...

This dataset has been archived; it has been superseded by version 3.0 (May 2022) which can be found at https://doi.org/10.5066/P9BLZPJT. The National Crude Oil Spill Fate and Natural Attenuation Research Site is located near Bemidji, MN, USA. A high pressure oil pipeline ruptured in 1979 releasing ~1.7 million liters of light crude oil, which sprayed over an area of ~6500 square meters and collected in topographic depressions. Approximately 75% of the spilled oil was recovered. Much of the remainder reached the water table, where it is distributed into three residual oil bodies (the north, middle, and south oil pools). Groundwater flows east-northeast toward a small lake roughly 300 m downgradient from the original...

A helicopter-borne electromagnetic/magnetic survey was flown over the Stillwater area, southwest Montana from May 5 to May 16, 2000. The survey was conducted over the Stillwater Igneous Complex, a Precambrian layered mafic-ultramafic intrusion which is characterized by igneous layering. Electromagnetic data were acquired using DIGHEM helicopter-borne electromagnetic system. Magnetic data were collected with optically pumped Cesium Vapor Geometrics G822 magnetometer. Sensor elevation above ground was measured with Honeywell/Sperry AA220 radar. The nominal elevation of the sensor was 60 meters. Survey coverage comprises 1,914 line kilometers, including tie lines. Flight lines were flown in an azimuthal direction of...

Controlled source audio-frequency magnetotellurics (CSAMT) data were collected over the Sevier fault, near Red Knoll in Kane county Utah, to better understand the hydrogeology of the area. CSAMT data provide vertical cross-section (profile) data about the resistivity of the subsurface, which may be related to lithologic boundaries and (or) grain-size distribution in the subsurface. CSAMT involves transmitting a current at various frequencies in one location, and measuring resistivity differences between electrodes spaced along a receiver line several kilometers from the transmitter. Data were collected using a GGT-30 transmitter and GDP32-II receiver (Zonge international. Inc.). Data processing and inversions were...
