The field notebook collection is a one-of-a-kind collection, dating back to the 1800s, that contains unique geologic information not recorded elsewhere. Due to the historic nature of the collection, the data it contains would be impossible to replicate today. These data are invaluable to present day geologic research, field and mine-related projects as well as engineering and construction projects. Categories: Data; Tags: ndc_collection Collection of Drill hole cuttings from Missouri The collection consists of well cutting samples (both whole rock & cuttings) for Public Water Supply wells, private domestic wells, irrigation wells and mineral/oil & gas exploration test holes. In most cases rock cuttings have been collected on 5-foot intervals from ground surface to the total depth of the well. The cuttings are permanently stored in glass or plastic vials in core boxes at the McCracken Core Library. Roughly ninety percent of the collection has a strip log made of the well. Most strip logs contain the owner's name, well location (county,section,township,range), latitude/longitude (when know), driller's name, drill date, amount & size of casing, ground elevation at well site, total depth, formation... The collection is primarily for support of STATEMAP mapping activities in Missouri; however, several conodont samples for other projects are included. As data archiving is evolving for this project, information completeness is variable from one column to the next. Data for the most recently completed STATEMAP grant year will be added as the sample compilation is completed. The physical conodont samples are stored in a conodont archive maintained in the MGS library and available for viewing upon request.
