Little is known about the underlying mechanisms governing uranium (U) bioaccumulation in aquatic insects, especially the influence of surface adsorption on the measured U concentrations (Henry et al. 2020). U.S. Geological Survey scientists are conducting experiments to parameterize conditional rate constants for aqueous U uptake and to quantify desorption of weakly bound U from insect's integument. Henry, Brianna L., Marie-Noële Croteau, David M. Walters, Janet L. Miller, Daniel J. Cain, and Christopher C. Fuller. Uranium bioaccumulation dynamics in the mayfly Neocloeon triangulifer and application to site-specific prediction. Environmental Science & Technology 54, no. 18 (2020): 11313-11321.

A secchi disk is used to estimate the water transparency depth of surface-water bodies. Secchi disk depth was measured monthly at Caño Boquerón, Cabo Rojo, and Puerto Mosquito, Isla de Vieques; Puerto Rico for the period from July 2015 to July 2016. This data release is part of a limnological analysis at Caño Boquerón and Puerto Mosquito to assess the principal factors affecting the hydrology and water-quality conditions. In addition, the study provides baseline information to regulatory agencies responsible for the management and conservation of coastal waters in Puerto Rico. The investigation focused on Caño Boquerón, and Puerto Mosquito surface-water bodies, representing disturbed and undisturbed conditions,...

This dataset contains measurements of dissolved oxygen concentrations collected at Caño Boquerón in Cabo Rojo, and Puerto Mosquito, Isla de Vieques, Puerto Rico. The method consists of in-situ incubation of two light-and-dark bottles for approximately four hours. Dissolved oxygen concentrations were determined using the Winkler method. A total of twelve monthly in-situ incubations were conducted from July 2015 to July 2016. For each bottle incubated, two or three titrations were conducted and an average of the DO calculations is presented.

This data release contains a 17-year record (2005-2022) of discrete chlorophyll data from inland waters, collected from across the nation and territories. These data are from discrete samples (collected in the field and analyzed in the laboratory) from plankton (suspended algae) and periphyton (benthic algae) from lakes, streams, rivers, reservoirs, canals, and other sites. These data are gathered to support process and remote sensing modeling and prediction of Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs). The chlorophyll data were compiled from the Water Quality Portal (WQP) and USGS National Water Quality Lab (NWQL). Data for uncorrected chlorophyll a, corrected chlorophyll a, and pheophytin from EPA Methods 445 and 446 are included...

The Cabin Branch and Cabin Creek (Cappy Avenue) outcrops are located along two small creeks in Prince George’s County, Maryland. The Cabin Branch outcrop contains exposures of silty sands of the Upper Cretaceous Severn Formation, and both outcrops contain Paleocene silty quartz and glauconitic sands of the Danian Brightseat Formation and highly fossiliferous glauconitic quartz sands of the Selandian Aquia Formation. Data from these two locations were generated in order to designate a Principal Reference Section for the Danian age Brightseat Formation. The Cabin Branch outcrop consists of disjunct exposures along an approximately 0.4-mile section of the creek. At the nearby Cabin Creek (Cappy Avenue) outcrop a more...

This data release contains information on gravity cores that were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in the area of San Pablo Bay and Carquinez Strait, California in 1990, 1991, and 2000. Ten (10) pdf files describe gravity cores that were split, photographed, and imaged by X-rays, and another pdf file contains a core-log legend. In addition, a shapefile provides sample collection data. Seventy-two gravity cores were collected by the U.S. Geological Survey in 1990, 1991, and 2000 from San Pablo Bay and Carquinez Strait, California. Gravity cores from San Pablo Bay contain bioturbated laminated silts and sandy clays, whole and broken bivalve shells (mostly mussels), fossil tube structures, and fine plant or...

This dataset contains the selected physical properties and chemical constituents that were measured at Puerto Mosquito, Isla de Vieques on June 22, 2017. A cross-sectional profile was conducted by measuring a total of ten selected site throughout the lagoon during the morning. Field water-quality measurements included the parameters of specific conductance, and dissolved oxygen.

Aerial photographs were collected from a small, fixed-wing aircraft over the coast of Barter Island, Alaska on September 07 2014. Precise aircraft position information and structure-from-motion photogrammetric methods were combined to derive a high-resolution orthophotomosaic. This orthophotomosaic contain 3-band, 8-bit, unsigned raster data (red/green/blue; file format-GeoTIFF) with a ground sample distance (GSD) resolution of 11 cm. The file employs Lempel-Ziv-Welch (LZW) compression. This orthophotomosaic was shifted (registered) to coincide with surveyed ground control points relative to the WGS84 datum.

The dataset contains the selected physical properties and chemical constituents that were measured at Caño Boquerón, Cabo Rojo, and Puerto Mosquito, Isla de Vieques, Puerto Rico during a diurnal cycle. Two diel studies were conducted per lagoon to determine the community primary productivity. Photosynthesis creates oxygen which enhances microbiological activity and results in the production of organic matter. Primary productivity is important for supporting the food web in aquatic ecosystems. The field data collection included the measurement of temperature, dissolved oxygen, and percent of oxygen saturation. Measurements were obtained at about 1 hour intervals. Diel studies were conducted on October 29, 2015 and...

Aerial photographs were collected from a small, fixed-wing aircraft over the coast of Barter Island, Alaska on July 05 2015. Precise aircraft position information and structure-from-motion photogrammetric methods were combined to a derive high-resolution orthophotomosaic. This orthophotomosaic contain 3-band, 8-bit, unsigned raster data (red/green/blue; file format-GeoTIFF) with a ground sample distance (GSD) resolution of 8 cm. The file employs Lempel-Ziv-Welch (LZW) compression. This orthophotomosaic was shifted (registered) to coincide with surveyed ground control points relative to the WGS84 datum.

This dataset contains the groundwater well locations and water-level measurements for 306 wells measured during the water-level survey of the Sparta-Memphis aquifer, in Arkansas, January through May 2013. Well-location and water-level data is publicly available from the U.S. Geological Survey's National Water Information System.

Assessment of egg deposition is widely used to provide an index of spawning efforts for lithophilic-spawning fishes. However, little is known about the collection techniques efficacy and bias when collecting fish eggs. We conducted a literature review to assess egg collection methods and evaluate egg retention and capture on egg mats. The literature review provided a summary of different gear types used to collect fish eggs, possible bias from the gears, and egg 'abundance' reporting strategies.

This part of DS 781 presents data for the sediment-thickness map of the Point Conception to Hueneme Canyon, California, region. The raster data file is included in "SedimentThickness_PointConceptionToHuenemeCanyon.zip," which is accessible from https://doi.org/10.5066/F7891424. As part of the USGS's California State Waters Mapping Project, a 50-m grid of sediment thickness for the seafloor within the 3-nautical mile limit between Point Conception and Hueneme Canyon was generated from seismic-reflection data collected in 2014 (USGS activity 2014-632-FA) supplemented with outcrop and geologic structure (fault) information following the methodology of Wong (2012). This sediment thickness layer was merged with a previously...
