Ar/Ar data are reported from minerals and rocks that were collected as part of a mineral resource investigation of the Tonopah, Divide, and Goldfield districts in Nevada. Data are reported from 92 samples and associated standards from eight separate neutron irradiations in the Denver USGS TRIGA reactor, including separated mineral grains and whole rocks. Data were collected by infrared laser heating of irradiated samples, either incremental heating or fusion, and analysis by multi-collector mass spectrometry. The reported data have been corrected for blanks, radioactive decay, and interfering nucleogenic reactions associated with sample irradiation.

Thirty-four ore, twenty-nine mine waste, seven host rock, two pegmatite, and one slag sample were collected from iron oxide-apatite (IOA) mines in the eastern Adirondack Highlands near Mineville and Ticonderoga, New York, from March 2016 to August 2018. The waste pile samples included twenty-five samples collected from rubble-sized mine waste piles and four samples from processed tailings piles. The ore from historic iron mines of the eastern Adirondack Highlands, New York, contain abundant quantities of rare earth element (REE)-bearing apatite crystals. These apatite crystals are especially enriched in Y, La, Ce, and Nd. In-ground ore, mine waste piles, and tailings piles could contain apatite...

Water analyses are reported for 66 samples collected from numerous thermal and non-thermal (rivers and streams) features in the southwestern areas of Yellowstone National Park (YNP) during 2009, 2017, and 2018. Water samples were collected from sources near Boundary Creek, Bechler River, Falls River, Mountain Ash Creek, Upper Snake River, Spirea Creek, and Lewis Lake. These water samples were collected and analyzed as part of research investigations on the chemistry of Yellowstone’s hydrothermal system and on the distribution of dissolved arsenic and mercury. Most samples were analyzed for major cations and anions, trace metals, redox species of arsenic, iron, nitrogen, and sulfur, and isotopes of hydrogen and oxygen....

A boosted regression tree (BRT) model was developed to predict pH conditions in three-dimensions throughout the glacial aquifer system (GLAC) of the contiguous United States using pH measurements in samples from 18,258 wells and predictor variables that represent aspects of the hydrogeologic setting. Model results indicate that the carbonate content of soils and aquifer materials strongly controls pH and when coupled with long flow paths, results in the most alkaline conditions. Conversely, in areas where glacial sediments are thin and carbonate-poor, pH conditions remain acidic. At depths typical of drinking-water supplies, predicted pH > 7.5 – which is associated with arsenic mobilization – occurs more frequently...

In 1968, the Missouri Geological Survey (MGS) established the Operation Basement program to address three objectives: a) to obtain drill hole and underground mining data relative to the structure and composition of the buried Precambrian basement; b) to expand mapping in the Precambrian outcrop area and conduct research related to Precambrian geology and mineral resources; and c) to publish the results of the first two objectives in the Contribution to Precambrian Geology series (Kisvarsanyi, 1976). The database presented here represents the first of those objectives. It was originally compiled in close cooperation with exploration and mining companies operating in Missouri, who provided drillhole data, core and...

We identified nine study site locations, representing three mature vegetation communities [Atlantic White Cedar (desired community), tall pine pocosin (desired community), and red maple/black gum mixed (undesired community)] with typical water depth within each vegetation type. All measurements were replicated three times (3 vegetation types x 3 replicates = 9 sites total). We installed four flux chambers at each site to collect GHG fluxes from all nine sites. We measured CO2 and CH4 using a Los Gatos Research Ultra Portable Greenhouse Gas Analyzer and two-part 760 cm2 flux chambers (chamber base remained in situ; chamber top was placed on the bottom only when sampling). We checked the gas fluxes on a monthly time-table...

This data release includes electron 40Ar/39Ar collected at the U.S. Geological Survey for samples from the Day Nui Con Voi metamorphic massif, Vietnam. Rock samples were collected by Meng-Wan Yeh, Michael J. Kunk and Robert P Wintsch in 2011. Mineral separates were prepared and aliquots of amphibole, muscovite, phlogopite, biotite, and potassium feldspar were analyzed by the 40Ar/39Ar method at the U.S. Geological Survey Bascom ARgon Dating (BARD) Laboratory in Reston, Virginia. The 40Ar/39Ar data constrain the timing of exhumation of rocks within the massif.

The data release for Gospel-Hump Wilderness Area and the Magruder Corridor and Special Mining Management Zone Additions to the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness Area, and adjacent areas Idaho and Montana, contains a subset of previously unpublished geochemical data from the 1979-1984 projects. In the case of Gospel-Hump Wilderness Area study (Lund and Esparza, 1990), the purpose of the project was to determine petrologic and geochemical characteristics and to investigate effects of historic mine drainage in the study area. Data for the Magruder Corridor Addition reflect rock geochemistry to document petrologic and geochemical characteristics (Mosier and others, 1981; Lund and others, 1992). Included in...

This data set compiles the major and trace element chemistry of rock samples collected by the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) at Bokan Mountain, located in the southern part of Prince of Wales Island, southeastern Alaska. Bokan Mountain was formed by an Early Jurassic peralkaline igneous complex that intruded into lower Paleozoic rocks of the Alexander terrane of southeast Alaska. The pluton and surrounding country rocks host numerous mineral deposits and occurrences, including heavy rare earth element (HREE)-rich pegmatites and felsic dikes, as well as mineral deposits rich in uranium, thorium, HREE, and fluorine. The Ross-Adams mine on Bokan Mountain exploited a uranium-thorium deposit intermittently from the late...

The ascii grids associated with this data release are predicted distributions of continuous pH at the drinking water depth zones in the groundwater of Central Valley, California. The two prediction grids produced in this work represent predicted pH at the domestic supply and public supply drinking water depths, respectively and are bound by the alluvial boundary that defines the Central Valley. A depth of 46 m was used to stratify wells into the shallow and deep aquifer and were derived from depth percentiles associated with domestic and public supply in previous work by Burow et al. (2013). In this work, the median well depth categorized as domestic supply was 30 meters below land surface and the median well depth...
