Note: This data release has been superseded by https://doi.org/10.5066/P9N4MPIH Data release includes the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) estimate of spring nitrogen fluxes from nine tributaries to the Chesapeake Bay from 1985 to 2020. Data are presented from tributaries within the USGS River Input Monitoring (RIM) network identified by site numbers: 01491000, 01578310, 01594440, 01646580, 01668000, 01673000, 01674500, 02035000, 02041650. Periods of estimation include January through May and November through May. The estimates are made using up-to-date streamflow and all total nitrogen analyses available as of June 1 of the reporting year.

This metadata record contains 6 tables used to assess sources of Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCB) in the Back River watershed, Baltimore City, Maryland. Included in the dataset are PCB concentrations of surface water and porewater passive samplers from Herring Run, Moores Run, tidal Back River, and Back River Wastewater Treatment Plant; PCB concentrations of bed sediments and other solids, Fat, Oil, and Grease (FOG) samples, and road sediments; dissolved organic carbon (DOC), total suspended solids (TSS), and particulate organic carbon (POC) concentrations of grab samples; and PCB concentrations of passive samplers from pump stations collected in 2018-2020.

This integer raster dataset represents runoff curve numbers for the combinations of hydrological soils groupings and land cover types within the South Carolina StreamStats study area. Soils data are from the USDA, NRCS SSURGO soils database and land cover data are USGS 2019 NLCD data. Data release contains two shapefiles related to poultry houses on the Delmarva Peninsula (Delaware, Eastern Shore Maryland and, Eastern Shore Virginia). One dataset is a polygon shapefile representing 6013 poultry houses identified using 2016 and 2017 aerial imagery from the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Aerial Imagery Program (NAIP). The second dataset is a point shapefile of inactive houses which displayed similar characteristics to the active houses except were overgrown or in a state of disrepair (in some cases only the building's footprint remains).

In July 2016, July 2019, and March 2020, 318 seismic recordings were acquired at locations within Shenandoah National Park, Virginia, using MOHO Tromino Model TEP-3C three-component seismometers to assess depth to bedrock using the HVSR method. This method requires a measurement of estimate of shear wave velocity, which depends on the regolith sediment composition and density, for the conversion of measured resonance frequency to a depth to bedrock. Shear wave velocities were calculated for sediment in Shenandoah NP at locations where regolith thickness is known (e.g. at documented boreholes). The U.S. Geological Survey, in collaboration with American Rivers and other partners, conducted a monitoring program beginning in 2010 to track river response to a series of dam removals on the Patapsco River intended to restore anadromous fish habitat in the watershed. Dam removals included the November 2010 removal of the Simkins dam, a 3.3 m tall and 66 m wide dam, with a reservoir sediment volume of ~67,000 cubic meters. Conservation tillage practices and cover crops are used throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed to reduce soil loss and improve water quality. Implementation of these Best Management Practices (BMPs) were reported to the Chesapeake Bay Program (CBP) by each state in the watershed (New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, and Virginia). Thirty water-supply drinking-water wells were sampled during fall 2018 for a set of constituents including PFAS. Groundwater samples were sent to Maxxam Laboratories (RTI Laboratory contract) to be analyzed for eighteen PFAS using USEPA 537m method. Groundwater age data were collected and analyzed as well in the USGS Reston, Va. laboratory. Quality-control samples including equipment and field blanks, sequential replicate samples, and laboratory spikes, were collected to evaluate and estimate potential contamination bias and measure variability from water-quality data-collection processes. This data record contains a CSV file with spectral reflectance (420-2114 nm) for sediment samples collected from each of four source locations (cropland, stream bank, glaciolacustrine, and street dust) located across sites in the Northwestern US during prior studies. Data were collected in a laboratory setting using Spectrecology USB4000-VIS-NIR and NIRQuest512-2.2 spectrometers. The detrimental effects of excess nutrients and sediment entering the Chesapeake Bay estuary from its watersheds have necessitated regulatory actions. Federally-mandated reductions are apportioned to bay jurisdictions based on the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Chesapeake Bay Time-Variable Watershed Model (CBPM). This dataset describes the location of channel heads survyed in two headwater watersheds in Clarksburg, Montgomery County, Maryland, and the digital elevation models derived from light detection and ranging (lidar) covering the two watersheds. The digital elevation models were used to derive topographic attributes used to delineate drainage networks that were then assessed for accuracy using the field-surveyed channel heads. Data release contains 1710 polygons representing small bodies of water within 500 meters of poultry feeding operations on the Delmarva Peninsula. Ponds were identified using the USDA's National Agriculture Imagery Program's 2016 and 2017 products. Poultry feeding operations were described in location by Soroka and Duren (2020).

This data release includes 5 files containing model inputs and resulting model predictions. A previously-calibrated spatially referenced regression (SPARROW) model was used to estimate effects of climate change on in-stream nitrogen (TN) loads in the Chesapeake Bay watershed between 1995 and 2025. Model scenarios were run using data for nitrogen sources and landscape characteristics from 2012, changing only temperature and runoff using climate change predictions to evaluate the change in climate on TN loads. Confidence intervals for model output predictions are also included.
