These datasets provide early estimates of 2024 fractional cover for exotic annual grass (EAG) species and one native perennial grass species on a weekly basis from April to late June. Typically, the EAG estimates are publicly released within 7-13 days of the latest satellite observation used for that version. Each weekly release contains five fractional cover maps along with their corresponding confidence maps for: 1) a group of 16 species of EAGs, 2) cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum); 3) Field Brome (Bromus arvensis); 4) medusahead (Taeniatherum caput-medusae); and 5) Sandberg bluegrass (Poa secunda). These datasets were generated leveraging field observations from Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Assessment, Inventory,...

This imagery dataset consists of 3-meter resolution, lidar-derived imagery of the Beckley 30 x 60 minute quadrangle in West Virginia, Virginia and Kentucky. The source data used to construct this imagery consists of 1-meter resolution lidar-derived digital elevation models (DEMs). The lidar source data were compiled from different acquisitions published between 2020 and 2022. The data were processed using geographic information systems (GIS) software. The data is projected in WGS 1984 Web Mercator. This representation illustrates the terrain as a hillshade with contrast adjusted to highlight local relief according to a topographic position index (TPI) calculation.

Defining site potential for an area establishes its possible long-term vegetation growth productivity in a relatively undisturbed state, providing a realistic reference point for ecosystem performance. Modeling and mapping site potential helps to measure and identify naturally occurring variations on the landscape as opposed to variations caused by land management activities or disturbances (Rigge et al. 2020). We integrated remotely sensed data (250-m enhanced Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (eMODIS) Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) (https://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/)) with land cover, biogeophysical (i.e., soils, topography) and climate data into regression-tree software (Cubist®). We...

The GAP National Terrestrial Ecosystems - Ver 3.0 is a 2011 update of the National Gap Analysis Project Land Cover Data - Version 2.2 for the conterminous U.S. The GAP National Terrestrial Ecosystems - Version 3.0 represents a highly thematically detailed land cover map of the U.S. The map legend includes types described by NatureServe's Ecological Systems Classification (Comer et al. 2002) as well as land use classes described in the National Land Cover Dataset 2011 (Homer et al. 2015). These data cover the entire continental U.S. and are a continuous data layer. These raster data have a 30 m x 30 m cell resolution. GAP used the best information available to create the land cover data; however GAP seeks to improve...

Scientists and engineers from the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Earth Resources Observation and Science Center (EROS) Cal/Val Center of Excellence (ECCOE) collected in situ measurements using field spectrometers to support the validation of surface reflectance products derived from Earth observing remote sensing imagery. Data provided in this data release were collected during selected Earth observing satellite overpasses and tests during the months of May through November 2021. These data were collected at six field sites during 2021. These field sites included South Dakota State University (SDSU) Research Park in Brookings, SD, near the Brookings Airport in Brookings, SD, a private land holding in Sanborn County,...

This data set is combination of imagery from the Advanced Land Imager and Landsat 8 Surface reflectance data product covering three USGS gauge stations, Middle Haddam Connecticut (01193050), Potomac River at Little Falls (01646500), and the Susquehanna River at Darlington, Maryland (01579550) and the Sandy Hook to Jamaica Bays areas of the New York and New Jersey coast. Raw and corrected water quality data was collected from the NWIS database for the corresponding dates of Landsat 8 overpasses of all three sites. Calculations and functions from the Landsat bands were compared, such as band ratios and power functions were calculated and compared against the corrected data for Colored Dissolved Organic Matter. These...

This USGS data release includes a comma separated value (CSV) file that contains 19 reach-based dam metrics representing stream fragmentation and flow alteration for nearly 2.3 million stream reaches in the conterminous United States. Dam metrics fall into three main categories: count and density, distance-based, and cumulative reservoir storage (described below). These data were developed using spatially verified large dam locations (n=49,140) primarily from the National Anthropogenic Barrier Dataset (NABD) 2012 that were spatially linked to the National Hydrography Dataset Plus version 2.1 (NHDPlusV2.1). These dam metrics have been summarized using the unique identifier field native to the NHDPlusV2.1 (COMID)...
This dataset accompanies planned publication 'Unmixing multiple metamorphic muscovite age populations with powder X-ray diffraction and 40Ar/39Ar analysis'. The 40Ar/39Ar and electron microprobe data are from samples adjacent to a lower greenschist facies shear zone in western New Hampshire. The geochronology coupled with the electron microprobe data provide a petrochronologic framework for the rocks studied in the manuscript. Sample collection was supervised by Ryan McAleer, Gregory Walsh, and Peter Valley of the USGS.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), in partnership with several federal agencies, has developed and released five National Land Cover Database (NLCD) products over the past two decades: NLCD 1992, 2001, 2006, 2011, and 2016. The 2016 release saw landcover created for additional years of 2003, 2008, and 2013. These products provide spatially explicit and reliable information on the Nation’s land cover and land cover change. To continue the legacy of NLCD and further establish a long-term monitoring capability for the Nation’s land resources, the USGS has designed a new generation of NLCD products named NLCD 2019. The NLCD 2019 design aims to provide innovative, consistent, and robust methodologies for production of...

The Cortez region in north-central Nevada hosts the second largest concentration of Carlin-type gold deposits in Nevada. The origin of these deposits is debated, and major questions remain concerning the role of magmatism in their formation. To understand the Mesozoic and Cenozoic magmatic history of the Cortez region, twenty-one samples of igneous rocks ranging from Jurassic to Eocene were sampled, including drill core from around several of the major deposits. Individual zircon grains from these samples were analyzed by Sensitive High Resolution Ion Microprobe (SHRIMP) for uranium lead ages and a suite of trace elements. Most samples are Eocene, in particular the dikes associated with Cortez mineralization. Although...

This USGS data release documents presence and absences of 271 fish species in the conterminous United States for 35,918 stream reaches of the National Hydrography Dataset Plus Version2.1 (NHDPlusV2.1). Sample dates for this dataset span 1990-2019. Fish samples were aligned to the Integrated Taxonomic Information System (ITIS), where each species record was assigned a Taxonomic Serial Number (TSN). The dataset is structured with records representing a stream reach (i.e. comid), sample description (i.e. source, date) and a series of 271 columns representing species where each species column is named as the TSN. Data can be visualized on the NHDPlusV2.1 after a tabular join using the field 'comid' or can be projected...
