This metadata record documents a set of 118 comma delimited files and a data dictionary describing the inputs for the U.S. Geological Survey Precipitation Runoff Modeling System (PRMS) which is used to drive the National Hydrologic Model (NHM) for the United States-Canada transboundary domain. The National Hydrologic Model database contains parameters for hydrologic response units (HRUs) and stream segments needed to run the NHM. These parameters are generated using python scripts to process input datasets such as digital elevation models, soil maps, and land cover classifications. Many of the parameters were left at their default model value as they would need to be calibrated as part of the PRMS model development...

This data set, compiled by the USGS Lake Erie Biological Station, provides near-bottom measurements of temperature and dissolved oxygen for the Central Basin of Lake Erie. Data were recorded by self-contained environmental data loggers (PME, Inc., MiniDOT data loggers). The data loggers were deployed to collect data during August 2021 through November 2022 to better understand how hypoxia develops and influences fish habitat quality during lake stratification. The data loggers were deployed on acoustic telemetry receivers in a network designed to record tagged fish movements (Great Lakes Acoustic Telemetry Observation System, GLATOS). Additional years of data collection are planned, and data release will be updated...

Wild insect pollination has significant positive effects on pollinator-dependent crop production. While managed honeybees are often used to provide pollination to pollinator-dependent crops, visits by wild insect pollinators have been shown to be more effective in increasing fruit set than managed pollinators, and wild insect pollination increases fruit set even when managed pollinator visitation is high (Garibaldi et al. 2013). The total value of the pollination services provided by wild, native insects has been estimated at $3.07 billion annually (2003 dollars) in the United States (Losey & Vaughan 2006). To assess the spatial distribution of potential wild insect pollination, we mapped the supply of potential...

Lake Sinai Viruses (LSV) are common ribonucleic acid (RNA) viruses of honey bees (Apis mellifera) that frequently reach high abundance but are not linked to overt disease. LSVs are genetically heterogeneous and collectively widespread, but despite frequent detection in surveys, the ecological and geographic factors structuring their distribution in A. mellifera are not understood. Even less is known about their distribution in other species. Better understanding of LSV prevalence and ecology have been hampered by high sequence diversity within the LSV clade. We developed a new genetic assay that detects all currently known lineages. We also performed pilot metagenetic sequencing to quantify the diversity of LSV...
The outputs of two versions of the Single-Layer Wet Canopy Water Balance model. Parameters include cloud water interception, evaporation of rainwater or fog water from wet canopy (interception evaporation), and canopy water storage.

These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. This is an ArcGIS dataset depicting watershed segments in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed and adjacent states of New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Thirty-meter-resolution Digital Elevation Model data were used to delineate watersheds for each stream reach. State watershed boundaries replaced the Digital Elevation Model-derived watersheds where coincident. The data are...

The dataset consists of two csv files one for home range and net displacement analysis for adult snakes with at least 20 locations collected during the study period and one for the analysis of movement metrics for all adult snakes in the study. The home range data contains the calculated 100 percent and 95 percent minimum convex polygons (MCP) and 95 percent adaptive local convex hull (a-LoCoH) home range estimates, 3 measures of net displacement from the release location of the snake as well as other pertinent information about individual snakes (year included in study, id, treatment group, site, snout to vent length (SVL)). The movement data contains calculations of the following movement metrics: sinuosity, start-to-end...

These data represent the extent and spatial distribution of irrigated acreage delineated from maximum Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) derived from Landsat scenes in the Walker River Basin, California and Nevada, at five-year intervals from 1975-2010. The field boundaries in this data set are digitized from one-year composite maximum NDVI data derived from atmospherically corrected Landsat 2 Multispectral Scanner (MSS), Landsat 5 MSS, and Landsat 5 Thematic Mapper (TM) scenes. NDVI was calculated from the corrected reflectance data for each selected scene during the growing season (May through early October) and a single, composite image of maximum NDVI values was derived for each 5-year interval. Selecting...

This part of the data release aids in identifying places where land-clearing and wall-building, rather than a sea flood, may account for anomalous boulders and cobbles of Pleistocene limestone on Anegada. The wall shapefile delineates much of a network of walls found mainly on the east half of the island. It can be plotted in GIS with the shapefile of limestone clasts, most of which form boulder fields that trail southward from limestone knolls, promontories, and other outcrops. The comparison shows that these clast fields are most abundant on low ground in and near salt ponds, while the walls run mostly on higher ground.

These data were created as part of a hydrologic study to characterize groundwater budgets and water quality in the Diamond Valley Flow System (DVFS), central Nevada. This dataset represents 2011 irrigated agricultural lands and associated land disturbances in the DVFS. The locations of irrigated agricultural lands were interpreted using Landsat imagery from the summer of 2011, National Agricultural Imagery Program imagery from 2010, and well water use information from the U.S. Geological Survey National Water Information System. Some areas classified as agricultural lands may be irrigated using diverted surface water or springs. Associated disturbances are areas that have been or may have been disturbed as a result...

These data were released prior to the October 1, 2016 effective date for the USGS’s policy dictating the review, approval, and release of scientific data as referenced in USGS Survey Manual Chapter 502.8 Fundamental Science Practices: Review and Approval of Scientific Data for Release. This data set is an ArcGIS shapefile depicting land segments in the Chesapeake Bay Watershed and adjacent states of New York, Pennsylvania, Maryland, West Virginia, Delaware, Virginia, North Carolina, and Tennessee. Land segmentation was based on county boundaries represented by a 1:100,000-scale digital dataset. Fifty of the 254 counties and incorporated cities in the model region were divided on the basis of physiography and topography,...

May sea floods contaminate Anegada groundwater by entering a freshwater aquifer through sink holes? Groundwater provides the island's main naturally available source of freshwater. Robert Schomburgk in 1832 reported natural wells provided by holes in limestone (https://library.iucn-isg.org/documents/1832/Schomburgk_1832_The_Journal_of_the_Royal_Geographical_Society_of_London.pdf). Today, sinks in the limestone are readily mapped today in lidar topography. The dataset here identifies 1,508 closed topographic depressions. Several holding water were examined during field work in 2008–2017. The water level in them was close to mean sea level, as estimated from differences between lidar elevations of rims and depths...

We developed a screening system to identify introduced plant species that are likely to increase wildfire risk, using the Hawaiian Islands to test the system and illustrate how the system can be applied to inform management decisions. Expert-based fire risk scores derived from field experiences with 49 invasive species in Hawai′i were used to train a machine learning model that predicts expert fire risk scores from among 21 plant traits obtained from literature and databases. The model revealed that just four variables can identify species categorized as higher fire risk by experts with 90% accuracy, while low risk species were identified with 79% accuracy. We then used the predictive model to screen 365 naturalized...

This part of the data release provides an updated georeferenced guide to the main unit of Holocene sand ascribed to a sea flood on Anegada. Much of the data was previously summarized in Figure A4 of https://doi.org/10.1130/GES01356.1 . Plotted here, on the accompanying map, are all 573 localities in the updated compilation —nearly half of which do not provide much if any evidence for marine inundation. The main attribute of each locality is one of four summary categories: Pervasive—Sand covers more than 3/4 of area and typically thicker than 5 cm (132 localities). Patchy—Sand covers less than 3/4 of area and typically thinner than 5 cm (185 localities). Scant—Called “Sand scarce or absent” in https://doi.org/10.1130/GES01356.1...
